The map to the right shows that Germany lost territory to Poland following World One One. The requirements of the Treaty of Versailles that Germany leaders signed to end the war was very unpopular among German voters.
The Great Depression was a world-wide economic collapse so Germany's suffered high unemployment problems that United States faced in the 1930s. Adolf Hitler and the Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party (Nazi Party) promised voters a new, wealthy Germany, and by 1933, Hitler became the absolute ruler (dictator) of Germany. Hitler's plan to make Germany a great country again was to fight another World War against the same enemies as before: The British, the French and the Russians. So, Nazi Germany's military rearmed in the early 1930s especially improving its aircraft and armored tanks. In September 1939, Adolf Hitler made a deal (non aggression treaty) with Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, where the Soviets could have half of the country of Poland if they [Soviets] didn't attack his armies [Germans] when they invaded [Poland]. |
